Tracking daily walks has been a game changer for me!
After plenty of inactivity throughout 2020 and 2021 due to the global pandemic, a broken ankle at the end of 2019 and a more sedentary work pattern, I really wanted to get back to regular walking: to increase my fitness and to try to reconnect to the active, outdoor person I used to be.
I missed the ‘Lorraine’ I once was and knew that getting outside in the fresh air would help me find her again.

But, having failed so many times with huge fitness and activity goals, I decided to start small.
My only commitment was: to walk outside every day.
It didn’t matter how far I walked, where I walked, how fast I walked or how many steps I took. My only goal was to get my shoes on and get outside!
So, I created a quick tracker chart and stuck it on the side of the fridge. Every day when I returned home from a walk, I wrote down where I walked and any notes of things I wanted to keep track of. For example, if I walked with a friend, if I added in more hills, if the weather was exceptionally hot or wet, or if I was sick or tired.
Having the adult version of a sticker chart was the missing piece of the puzzle in terms of daily accountability, satisfaction and pride.
